This week, our Garden Club burst out of Zoom and met face-to-face for the first time in 18 months.
For two hours we dug and tidied the flower and veggie beds in our Community Garden. The garden is a little oasis between NWCDP's building and Dublin City Council's St. Laurence O'Toole Recreation Centre, D.1.
Our Garden Club has met weekly by Zoom since Spring. That's thanks to generous funding from Community Foundation for Ireland which let us buy Acorn tablets for our garden and knitting club ladies. John O'Donoghue, an expert gardener and former CDETB tutor, gave us virtual classes on planting salads, cucumbers, flowers and other plants in a series of great classes. He was patience personified and gave us loads of useful tips.
DCC's Central Council Area office supplied garden materials and Tomasz, from DCC's community team, helped us knock the garden into shape this week. Tomorrow we're off to the Botanic Gardens for a summer outing. And next Tuesday -- inspired by all the trip -- we'll plant our baby flowers, vegetables and blooms donated by DCC. All guided by John.
Thanks to the ladies for their hard work and cracking good humour. And to Derek, manager of St. Laurence O'Toole Recreation Centre, for letting us back into the garden, and for fixing the fountain. It's so relaxing!
