Community fundraiser

October is a month when we support those living with cancer.  This year NWCDP held a raffle, a pyjama day and other events to back a member of our own community. Here Lisa (left) and Tina (right)  announce a raffle winner in our draw.  We raised €1,900 in all.

A big thank you to everyone who donated prizes, bought raffle tickets and organised these events.   We really appreciate your support.

Christmas cheer!

Our Knitting Club ladies are as busy as ever!  Lily (left) and Patricia (right) have made beautiful dolls for the Christmas crib in St. Laurence O'Toole church, North Wall parish, and for home decorations.  Lots of sweet details, too.  The dolls have little noses, cloaks, belts, scarves - one with a white snowball attached. The carol singers even have a hymn book!

Our thanks to Dublin City Community Co-op for the wool. And to Lily, Patricia and all our Knitting Club members for their work.

Poetry session at NWCDP

On Friday, our GoDigital! ladies put down their knitting needles and tried creative writing instead.  They were taking part in Poetry Town, a nationwide festival that took place  from 10th to 18th September.  Poet Laureate Rachel Hegarty did a great job leading the group.   The ladies took to it quickly -- a chance to meet new people, as Ellen said, and put memories and thoughts on paper.  We can't wait to see the result.  The event was sponsored by Poetry Ireland.  Many thanks to Rachel and the festival organisers.

2021 Graduation at Little Treasures

28th July was special at North Wall CDP.  It was graduation day for 17 pre-school children from Little Treasures community crèche. Looking very smart in their black gowns and hats they had a socially-distanced ceremony in St. Laurence O'Toole Recreation Centre, Sheriff Street.  Then they enjoyed a treat lunch back in the crèche.

Each child received a traditional St. Christopher's medal to guide them on their journey to 'big school'.  Best of luck to all our graduates and their proud families!

Knit & Sew club do their bit for Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin

The ladies in our Knit & Sew club have been super busy.  They have just knitted an amazing 34 hats and 25 blankets for little ones attending Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin.  The children are aged 0-4 years and these hand-made items are a simple but lovely gift for their worried parents.  Josephine Henry of Dublin City Community Co-op kindly set up the link with the hospital and organised the wool, patterns, etc. It's safe to say she was stunned by quality and number of items the ladies knitted in such a short time.

Our garden club gets real

This week, our Garden Club burst out of Zoom and met face-to-face for the first time in 18 months.

For two hours we dug and tidied the flower and veggie beds in our Community Garden.  The garden is a little oasis between NWCDP's building and Dublin City Council's  St. Laurence O'Toole Recreation Centre, D.1.
