Trip to Airfield Estate

The skies were cloudy but spirits high!  On Wednesday our garden club ladies and tutor Andrew visited Airfield Estate, near Dundrum.  The grounds are amazing. Airfield Estate is Dublin’s only working farm and gardens. It aims to be a sustainable food hub in a city that's a world leader in food sustainability.

This week's trip included a tour of the gardens, a visit to the house and brunch in the cafe. After all the work in our community garden back here in Dublin 1 this was a well-earned break.

Grow-time with local children

We're delighted to partner with the After School Education and Support Programme (ASESP) on a little gardening project.  In our first growing session we planted sunflower seeds!  The children were brilliant. They had lots of fun and worked really well as a team.   The ASESP is based in Sheriff Street, Dublin 1, like ourselves.  They provide a vital service for local families.

The baby sunflowers are getting lots of TLC and sun - thanks to the recent good weather. The children and ASESP staff are watering them regularly!

Calling it out

North Wall CDP is proud of Lee Grace, who is providing Audio Descriptive Commentary for Bohemians.

Lee is taking to his new role like the proverbial duck to water.  This was just one of the fantastic career opportunities available to our L.I.F.E. (Sports & Recreation QQI 5) learners.

Level 5 Sports Course for L.I.F.E.

On 9th January this year, North Wall CDP rolled out its new 44-week Sports, Recreational and Exercise course.  Each day, learners take part in daily football practice, gym training and themed classwork. This is an accredited, industry entry level QQI Level 5 course and is enhanced by the addition of RLSS Lifeguard and First Aid qualifications.  Learners participate in multi-sport workshops and activity trips and have guest speakers. Those who meet the eligibility criteria get a training and meal allowance.

St. Valentine's Day art class

On the eve of Valentine's Day,  our pre-school childcare staff planned a special art workshop. Result? These beautiful cards and hearts, made by the children themselves.

The staff do a 20-minute art class with the class or twice a week.  Double that time if you include the prep (aprons on and paints ready) and the clean-up afterwards!!!  It's always worth the effort.  Because, as our poster says - We love to paint!

That special time of year ...

Santy zoomed into North Wall with a sleigh-full of toys for children in our community crèche last Friday.  It was a magical event, as always.  Santy brought toys specially made and wrapped by Team Elf and Mathesons, Dublin 2.  The tree and reception area looked fantastic. We  greatly appreciate the kindness and goodwill of our corporate partners.  And the hard work and commitment of our staff - together we make Christmas happen at Little Treasures every year.
